The traditional influencer model isn’t delivering

I read a piece from CNBC last week, and none of it surprised me.

Here’s the challenge:

Income from brand deals is volatile and concentrated among top creators.

Social algorithms dictate visibility, making revenue unpredictable.

Most creators earn less than $15,000 annually, despite the influencer market being valued at $21 billion.

In response, many creators are taking control by monetizing their expertise behind paywalls.

We did this with Subscription Scale, a masterclass and community for businesses to learn, understand, and master subscription commerce, strategy, and recurring revenue generation. To power it, we chose Skool.

If you’re considering this path, here are platform options based on your strategy:

🔹 Community: Skool, Circle, Mighty Networks
🔹 Course: Kajabi, Thinkific, Teachable
🔹 Newsletter: Substack

Content alone won’t generate meaningful revenue.

You need to:

→ Hedge against algorithms.
→ Build an owned audience.
→ Monetize with a subscription or membership.

The creator economy is evolving.

Time to adapt.
